MBA: Finance jobs are migrating to Asia

The percentage of MBA graduates choosing finance as a career has dipped only slightly since the crisis, no doubt largely because pay in the industry has held up remarkably (some would say obscenely) well. But within the industry career priorities are changing, at least when it comes to location. Talent and transactions are migrating from London and New York to faster-growing markets, particularly in Asia. Though some headhunters predict indigestion in Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai this year after an overzealous bout of hiring, most are bullish on the region’s long-term prospects. Batch 2011-13: IIM-A has 94% engineers

The flagship programme has 94% engineers this year, a marginal drop from 95% admitted last year. The institute has offered seats to 3.5% students from commerce background and to 2% from science stream. Full article here

While IIM-Ahmedabad conducted the prestigious examination in 2008 and 2009 in association with IIM-Bangalore, in 2010 the responsibility of the CAT convener was handed over to the IIM-Lucknow. This year it is IIM C. Article here

Percentage of female MBAs steadily dropping in IIM A

The participation of women candidates in the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) this year has seen no improvement since the last two years. While the number of girls offered admission at the institute’s flagship course dropped from 16% in 2009 to 11% percent in 2010, the figure has dropped to 10.9% this year. Read here
